Summary: Shady Hill School is looking for a full time Custodian/Light Maintenance Worker. The Custodian/Light Maintenance Worker will be responsible for performing second shift custodial, maintenance, event preparation and safety/security functions for the purpose of ensuring an attractive, sanitary and safe environment for students, staff and visitors. During the school year the scheduled hours are Sunday - Thursday, 3:00pm - 11:00pm. During the summer, the scheduled hours must be flexible including changing to days with occasional nights. This position will report directly to the Night Custodial Supervisor.
Primary Responsibilities:
Clean assigned facilities and grounds with a high level of skill using a variety of techniques including but not limited to:
Drying and damp mopping floors
Cleaning, dusting and disinfecting surfaces
Vacuuming and removing stains from carpets and other surfaces including carpet and upholstery shampoo and extraction
Emptying and cleaning of trash receptacles, recycling and compost bins
Stripping and waxing tile and other flooring
Cleaning and disinfecting drains to prevent bug infestation and ensure a clean odor
Store all supplies and equipment in a safe and organized manner
Assist the Night Supervisor with other tasks as needed
Ensure prompt response to and execution of all work orders
Complete assigned work plans on time and on schedule
Lock and alarm all buildings and conform with all campus safety protocols
Shovel snow and dispense ice melt, including operating power equipment as needed
Set up and take down furniture, refreshments or other items needed for campus events
Replenish classroom, break room and restroom supplies
Clean and maintain all machines and other equipment used
Ensure safety by utilizing proper personal protective equipment (PPE) which is provided by the School
Attend department and all staff meetings as required
Adhere to all Shady Hill School policies, procedures and rules
Other duties as assigned
Must occasionally be available outside of scheduled hours as needed (primarily during a snowstorm or for an event)
Required Skills:
Flexibility with schedule and work assignments
Competence in the specific skills required to perform the duties listed above, including operating and maintaining equipment used in industrial cleaning and the use and maintenance of common tools
Knowledge of appropriate safety techniques to conduct work in a safe and responsible manner including handling any chemicals or potentially hazardous materials
Ability to meet deadlines and adapt to changing work priorities and interruptions
Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of people and maintain professional relationships with other employees, parents, students and contractors
Physical Requirements:
Lifting up to 100 pounds, carrying up to 50 pounds
Standing for extended periods of time
Walking across campus under a variety of weather conditions
Shoveling snow
Walking up and down stairs several times per day
Stooping, bending, reaching and kneeling
Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor conditions and extremely hot and cold conditions
Qualifications:
A minimum of 3 years prior custodial experience
Ability to read and communicate orally in English
Authorized to work in the United States
Possessing a valid driver’s license
Ability to pass a criminal background check
The pay range for this position is $24 - $26 per hour.
